Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to Year 3 with Miss Ward and Miss Donnelly. Through our exciting and varied curriculum we are very much looking forward to sharing a busy, creative and fun filled year with you! 

In English we will be studying some great stories, which will include ‘The Cinderella of the Nile’ by Beverley Naidoo, ‘Ottoline and the Yellow Cat’ by Chris Ridell and ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. We will also be exploring poetry and as well as looking at some non-fiction pieces on Tutankhamen and mountain ranges. The children will also be completing a week spelling test and taking part in spelling bees each half term. 

  

In Maths, the children will be covering a range of units throughout the year, which will include, number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, money, length and perimeter, time, statistics and properties of shapes. We will be also using Time Table Rockstars and Tackling Tables to help us to learn and recall multiplication and division facts. 

Our Learning Journey topics this year will include Life in the Stone Age, Ancient Egypt, Mountains and the Maya. In Science, we will be investigating Magnets and forces, Animals including Humans, Light, Rocks and Plants. The children will also benefit from taking part in two Physical Education sessions per week, lessons in Computing, Music and Art. 

  

In R.E. we will be exploring many themes starting with Homes and Families, Promises (Baptism) and Visitors (Advent). We will also be studying Judaism and other religions such as Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Most importantly, we will be helping to prepare you to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
