Welcome to Year 2!
St Bernadette
Welcome to Year 2. Through our exciting and varied curriculum we are very much looking forward to sharing a busy, creative and fun filled year with you!
In English we will be studying some great stories, which will include ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ by Roald Dahl, ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’ by Quentin Blake and ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies. We will also be exploring poetry and a range of non-fiction texts. The children will also complete a week spelling test and take part in spelling bees each half term.
In Maths, the children will be covering a range of units throughout the year, which will include, numbers to 100, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, money, length and height, time, mass and capacity, statistics, shape and problem solving. From November, we will be using Tackling Tables to help us learn and recall multiplication and division facts for the 1,2,5 and 10 times tables.
We look forward to sharing our creative curriculum with the children including our topics: The Weather, The Great Fire of London, Oceans and Seas as well as looking at Seaside Holidays. In Science, the children will look at topics such as living things and their habitats, plants, animals and the uses of everyday materials.
Throughout the course of the year, the Year 2 RE topics will look at units such as Creation and Covenant, Galilee to Jerusalem and Desert to Garden; to help us gain a better understanding of the Catholic faith.
We look forward to sharing our learning on Class Dojo; please do share achievements at home with us too.
